As a result of the preaching and healing meetings in the 1930’s of evangelist Aimee Semple, thousands of converts were added to local congregations. In 1941, a group of believers decided to fully identify with the denomination the evangelist had founded, The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.

Property was secured on Palm Avenue, and a pioneer pastor was appointed to shepherd the flock that began worshiping and serving there in a simply constructed building with sawdust floors and wood burning stoves. That building was renovated and enlarged a number of times to serve the Foursquare family that met there for more than 38 years.

In 1970, Roger Whitlow was appointed to pastor the congregation of around 100 people. Over the next three years, the Lord answered fervent prayer for renewal in the life of the church. The power of God's Word and Holy Spirit became marvelously evident as more and more people were drawn to be disciples and worshipers of Jesus, delighting in the great love that saturated the fellowship.

The transformation that God was doing in the church body was accompanied with a new ministry name. The name, Valley Christian Center, was chosen to represent a center for worship, growth, equipping and outreach. Growth became significant and steady, with increase in all areas of ministry.

By 1979, the Palm Avenue facility was inadequate for the congregation, requiring four Sunday morning services. Graciously, the Lord enabled the purchase, renovation and enlargement of the Carousel Skating Rink on Shields Avenue for the new church "center". Since occupying the new facility in October, 1981, the size and scope of the church's ministry has continued to expand. As of June, 2005, the Sunday morning congregation averages more than 1,800 people with the need for more room in many ministry areas.
