The Children’s Ministries Team is committed to excellence in our ministry to children. We believe that the young lives entrusted to us are valuable gifts to our church family and that God has a plan and a purpose for each of them.
Children are our heritage. It is critical that we plant in them the best seed, water them with God’s Word and see that they grow into deeply rooted disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We strive to provide strong biblical training presented in an age appropriate manner with life application. We desire to partner with parents in seeing our children grow into spiritual champions!
Mission Statement
“Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Our goal is to train up our children in a rich environment that will allow them to grow deeply in the knowledge of God and His Word. This environment is created in grade level classrooms where children learn stories from the Bible, worship, complete theme crafts and learn monthly memory verses. Our classroom settings allow for relationships to be developed between children and their teachers.
Gospel Light serves as our anchor curriculum with enhanced materials and lesson presentation resources, which have been developed by the VCC Children’s Ministries Team. This sequence of lessons allows children to go through the Bible four times by the end of their 5th grade year.
Nursery 0 – 12 months & Toddlers 12 – 24 months
We desire to reflect God’s love for each precious baby in our care by providing a safe, caring and stimulating environment that is characterized by God’s nurturing presence. Age appropriate toys, games and music are offered in our brightly decorated and entertaining Nursery and Toddler rooms. Nursing mothers can make use of our nursing mothers’ room just across the hall from the nursery where they are able to view the service in privacy.
Toddlers (those who are walking and approximately 12 to 24 months) we have a monthly teaching picture. We provide practical ideas for parents to use with their children at home to create a connection between church and home.
2’s – Kindergarten
Children in this age group learn about God through Biblical teaching, exciting crafts, worship, and learning center activities. They also enjoy snack time, games and special time on our playground. Each month a new Bible verse is taught and the children receive encouragement for memorization. Our goal is that each child will not only hear the timeless stories in the Bible, but also experience them and their unchanging truths in a variety of ways while incorporating God’s Word into their daily lives.
Discovery Quest Mission Statement
To equip the children of Valley Christian center with the Word of God so that they will be prepared for every good work in God’s kingdom.
Ages: 2yrs – 5th Grade
Why Discovery Quest?
Discovery Quest! is an exciting concept aimed at the discipleship of children! Our children must be able to answer questions to what they believe and have the scriptures at hand that will substantiate that belief system. George Barna, a Christian researcher, has written extensively on the importance of having our children grounded in the Word of God in order to prepare them for the warfare that they are involved in daily. Developing a biblical worldview – a mental, emotional and spiritual filter that enables children to interpret life from God’s point of view- is essential today. Further, research states that the moral convictions, spiritual choices and core theological beliefs of most people are solidified before the age of 13*. We have no time to loose! Placing the Word of God in the hearts of our children must be our number one priority.
The goal of Discovery Quest! is to create a fun atmosphere where children will be deeply rooted in the Word of God during Word Quest time, and have a great time doing it as they participate in team games during Game Quest and be awarded prizes during Rally Quest time!
Promised Land for Preschoolers:
Discovery Quest for children 2 years old to Kindergarten will take them on an adventure into the Promised Land. In the Promised Land your young child will learn that he or she is a child of promise and that God has an amazing plan for their lives. Your sprout (2’s and 3’s) and seedling (4’s and Kindergarten) will enter a quest through the Word to discover many of the promises God has given them. They will enjoy weekly visits to the Garden Patch where they will meet the Master Gardener and watch as He shows His unfailing love and care for the little creatures that live in His garden. Your young child is ripe for this type of learning about who God is and how He fits into the center of their life!
Will you partner with us in an attempt to plant the Word of God deeply in the heart and spirit of your child? With help in understanding the existence and nature of God, salvation, and spiritual authority, our children will be equipped to navigate through the waters of today’s culture.
